Buckshot

This adorable boy has been through hell. He’s survived so much recently with nothing but the sweetest and happiest attitude.

We pulled him from a shelter where he was at risk of being euthanized. He arrived at the shelter riddled with pellets from being shot. Mostly in his back end as if he was running away. When he arrived we realized something else was very wrong. He was rushed into emergency surgery where it was discovered he had two socks made into a toy stuck in his intestines. Somehow he made it through all of this and is now getting stronger and healthier every day.

Even when he was clearly in pain he’s been nothing but the sweetest boy. He loves everyone immediately and really just wants a family to love him. If you’re looking for a big guy with a heart of gold then here he is!!

***He does still have the pellets inside his body. The vet recommended leaving them as they are not causing him any health issues. Removing them from so many areas across his body would be painful and unnecessary**

Buckshot is an approx 3 years old, male American bully/staffy type mix. He weighs 45 pounds at last vet visit. (He is still regaining weight he lost from being sick.) He’s a shorter stockier built.

He will be neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of his adoption. He is thankfully heartworm negative.

Buckshot has done well with all the dogs he’s met so far. Other dogs sometimes get annoyed with him as he’s a humper 🤦🏼‍♀️ We are hoping his upcoming neuter will resolve that. He is fostered with cats and does well. He is very interested in them but doesn’t try to hurt them.

We have not had him fostered with kids but we think he would do well. He has a gentle loving personality. He may knock over or jump up on little ones but we don’t see him being aggressive to anyone or anything.

Buckshot is really good with his house manners. He does fantastic with potty training. Even when sick he did not have accidents. He goes potty immediately when let out then comes to the door to let you know he’s done.

He is perfectly crate trained. He’s fine sleeping and eating in the crate. He’s quiet when crated and fine being in there during the workday. He also rides well in the car. He loves to look out the window. If he can he will ride with his head resting on your shoulder. He’s leash trained but does pull at times. Usually when he sees other dogs he wants to go say hi to.

Buckshot has a medium energy level so far. It could increase a bit but so far he’s fairly relaxed. He loves to go outside with you and other dogs for some zoomies and playtime but the majority of his day is spent lounging out with you and relaxing. A little playtime and some walks seem to keep him pretty balanced.

He has shown no issues sharing food, treats or toys with humans or other dogs. He does eat very fast and we assume he went without food previously due to his condition. It’s best to feed him separate and with a slow feeder until he learns he doesn’t have to rush and food will always be available.

Due to him previously swallowing a sock toy his new family will need to be diligent about what he plays with. We have not seen him even try to ingest anything. It could be that he was starving and ate it as a fluke. Without knowing it’s important to get him toys he can’t eat and supervise him with anything he could potentially eat.

Buckshot really is the greatest guy. Super friendly, well behaved and as cute as he can be. If you’re looking for a social and happy guy then he may be the one!!
