Byron

MEET BYRON!!

This poor guy came to us and was in really terrible shape. He’s was very thin and severely matted with feces and urine matted into his coat. We don’t understand how someone let him get that way and did nothing to help him.
He’s been groomed now but we had to clip him very short so he kinda looks like a naked rat 🤷‍♀️ It will grow back we promise.
Byron is an approx 9 month old male. He is said to be a poodle and Yorkie mix. He weighs 14 pounds.
He will be neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines as part of his adoption. He is thankfully heartworm negative and on monthly preventions.
Byron seems to have been bounced around a bit and neglected so he’s a bit behind on some of his training but he’s getting it. He makes up for that by being the sweetest most loving little guy.
He is great with other dogs. He’s super playful and not afraid of them. He will try to steal their bones and get feisty if they try to take his. He’s currently a bit of a humper also. So basically he needs a tolerant doggie friend while he learns better manners. He hasn’t been around cats so we aren’t sure how he would do. He adores children and is really good with them. He does jump up on them but is extremely friendly and affectionate with kids.
Byron is doing okay with leash walking but isn’t perfect. He’s fine on car rides. He is crate trained but will be vocal if left inside when you’re home. He wants to be out with you. He hasn’t been destructive when left uncrated. He isn’t potty trained. He will try to use puppy pads if provided but also still lifts his leg to mark territory. His upcoming neuter will hopefully help with that. He has no trouble wearing belly bands to help with training. He does better going potty in a fenced area and will take longer to potty train if you don’t have one.
He has a medium energy level. He loves to chill on the couch with you or relax on a comfy dog bed in the room you’re in. He can also be spunky and playful with other dogs. He’s excited to see you and will jump up on you to get attention at times. He really likes to sleep in bed with you.
Byron was super skinny when he arrived and can be possessive over his food. He also eats very fast. It’s best to feed him separately from others. He doesn’t like you to remove food bowls, toys or things while he’s in the crate with them. Outside the crate he’s been fine about it. We suggest letting him eat in a separate area or his crate and removing his food/bowls once he’s done and no longer near them.
Due to his rough start to life he will definitely need a family willing to put some work into him. He deserves a safe and loving home where he can feel safe and thrive. He really is a sweet and loving guy.
📌📌He will need regular grooming. This requires time to get him to and from the appointments and additional expenses to pay for it. On average a dog of this breed will need grooming every 6 weeks. This should be fully considered prior to applying to adopt him.
➡️Vet and home checks required.
➡️Fenced potty area preferred
Located in Hampton VA.
(He will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius)
