He was saved from a high kill shelter only hours before he was set to be euthanized. He’s now ready for a safe new home.
Rascal is a 3yr old, male, Chihuahua. He weighs approx 9 pounds.
He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on shots.
Rascal is good with other dogs but has not yet been around cats. He would be good with older kids that understand giving a dog space. He has some issues with fearfulness.
He is doing well with potty training but still has some accidents. He is crate trained and is used to eating in his crate.
Rascal is great on car rides and doing well with leash training. He still pulls a little when excited. He has a medium energy level. He likes to play but also cuddle.
He does have some issues with food aggression with people food and high value treats. He was found as a stray so he needs time to learn that he doesn’t have to fight over food and treats.
Rascal gives plenty of warnings when he is afraid such as growling. He needs someone willing to give him time to adjust and space when he’s afraid. He has made an amazing amount of process with accepting strangers. His foster has done a great job teaching him life is fun and not scary anymore.
He is really a love bug underneath that fearful exterior. He loves going on walks, playing fetch and snuggling. He is a smart dog and has already learned sit and stay.
Rascal is not a yappie dog but will alert to people coming to the door etc. Despite his size he is very loyal and protective of his owner.
He needs an owner willing to complete his rescue and love him enough to work with him and show him the world is a safe. You’ll gain a loyal and loving companion!!
Vet and home checks required.

Hi, my name is Joan Howard and I am 54 years old and disabled. I am very interested in the chihauhua you have named Rascal. I recently lost my chihauhua of 13 years to mouth cancer. He had a great home and great life I miss him like crazy. The crazy thing my chihuahua looked exactly like Rascal the spitting image. I loved him so much he was my baby and part of the family as soon as I laid eyes on Rascal I burst in to tears I would love to be able to meet Rascal and give him a loving home. I’m interested in speaking to you by phone about possible adopting him can I also send you a picture of my little man BB so u can see just how much they look alike. It is amazing. My number is (804-296-8900) if you could please give me a call as soon a possible I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much and have a blessed day (Joan Howard)
I spoke to your vet and they stated you are not financially able to pay your bill with them and regularly rely on charity groups to get your pet even their basic shots. We would not feel comfortable putting an animal in a situation where the person could not afford to have the pet.
